Percy Sledge Reynolds was indicted on four counts of vehicular homicide in the first degree in connection with an Oct. 25 collision that killed 17-year-old Derren Aguirre.

A Cobb County grand jury has indicted a driver for his part in a crash that killed a teenager and injured the boy’s parents.

Percy Sledge Reynolds was indicted Thursday on four counts of vehicular homicide in the first degree.

He was arrested in connection with an Oct. 25 collision that killed Derren Aguirre, a 17-year-old McEachern High School student, and injured his parents, Robert and Carla Aguirre

Cobb police were dispatched to the scene of the crash at 10:49 p.m. on Hiram Lithia Springs Road at Sweetsprings Drive.

A preliminary report released by police say a black 2016 Lexus ES330 was traveling northbound and making a left turn from Hiram Lithia Springs Road onto Sweetsprings Drive when a silver 2018 BMW 430I traveling southbound hit the back of the Lexus.

“The force of the collision tore most of the rear passenger compartment of the Lexus free from the rest of the vehicle,” Cobb police said.

Robert and Carla Aguirre, the driver and front seat passengers of the Lexus, were injured in the collision. Cobb police say Derren Aguirre, who was in the back seat, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by Cobb police, a blood sample collected from Reynolds, who was 43 at the time of his arrest, determined his alcohol level to be .152 grams. The legal limit in Georgia is .08 grams.

Cobb police also say Reynolds was driving the BMW at 99 miles per hour in a 40 miles-per-hour zone on a wet road, “which resulted in a collision” with the left-turning Lexus. The BMW was traveling at 99 miles per hour for about five seconds before colliding with the Lexus, the warrant says.

Reynolds was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on Dec. 4 and released after posting bond.
