After a 2½-hour town hall meeting at Avondale Estates’ city hall Tuesday, State Representative Karla Drenner,D-Avondale Estates, still isn’t saying whether she’ll sponsor the city’s annexation master plan.

“I still don’t think we have a consensus of what [the city] wants,” Drenner said after the session. “I do believe a whole lot of people still feel they don’t understand enough [about annexation] to say whether they’re for or against.”

She may, however, need to make a decision soon, with efforts to create new cities of LaVista Hills, South Fulton and Tucker passing through a subcommittee of the Georgia House of Representatives Tuesday. Avondale’s Acting Mayor Terry Giager believes “80 to 85 percent” of Avondale supports annexation, while a recent anti-annexation petition garnered only 118 signatures out of the city’s 3,360 residents.
