It was over two weeks ago when a DeKalb animal shelter received notice that a malnourished dog had been tossed into a parking lot and left alone. Now, that same dog, is getting better by the day.
The 10-month old dog, Benjamin, is recovering well, according to LifeLine Animal Project. He is currently being fostered by Deb Hammacher, a longtime LifeLine volunteer.
“He's doing great,” said Hammacher. “He is the sweetest, happiest boy.”

When Benjamin was brought into LifeLine — which manages the DeKalb County Animal Services shelter — he couldn’t stand or lift his head, according to LifeLine representatives. But now, Benjamin is gaining energy daily.
“Dogs really are remarkably resilient. Despite what was done to him, he is so happy and loving,” Hammacher said.
Though he has gained eight pounds under her care, Hammacher believes he needs to gain 10 more pounds. Benjamin currently weighs 32 pounds.
Hammacher believes he’ll be ready for a permanent home in about three weeks.
