Officials will resume searching Saturday for a man who went under water at Lake Lanier, officials said.

The subject of the search was identified as a 29-year-old man, Forsyth County fire investigator Jeff Hundley said. Witnesses saw him in the water Friday before he went under, the Gainesville Times reported. His identity was not released.

The incident was reportedly about 300 yards offshore, near Vann’s Tavern Park, Hundley told the Times. The water is about 125 feet deep at that location.

Dive crews from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources searched the lake until 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Hundley said. They were unsuccessful due to the debris field and the depth of water, he said.

This incident comes less than a week after a Florida man failed to resurface after falling into the lake, officials said. Officials have been unable to find Kevin Theodore Husum, 23, after searching most of the week.
