A disabled Newton County man has been missing since Thursday.

No foul play is suspected in the disappearance of Robert R. “Bobby” Weaver III, 27. But his grandmother, Evelyn Weaver, said it was unlike her grandson to leave.

“He’s never, ever left home. This is nothing that he does,” she said. “I am dying every minute that he’s gone.”

Evelyn Weaver said she last saw her grandson Thursday, when she crossed his path as he was walking his 80-pound pit bull, King.

King, wearing no leash, returned home Monday morning, authorities said. Police conducted another search of the immediate area but found nothing.

Bobby Weaver, a 5-foot-7 white male, has been diagnosed with Arnold-Chiari Malformation, said investigator Jeff Alexander, a spokesman for the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. The condition is a structural defect in the part of the brain that controls balance. Alexander said Weaver is fully functional, but may stagger when he walks.

Evelyn Weaver said he left without medication or other belongings.

He is being treated with methadone. Because of its addictive nature, there are concerns that Weaver may be involved in other drug activity, Alexander said.

Dogs traced his scent to the road, Alexander said, and investigators believe he got in a car. Evelyn Weaver said her grandson has not been heard from since Friday.

The sheriff’s office has talked to several people of interest in the case.

Police confirmed that Robert Weaver has taken money out of his bank account, Channel 2 Action News reported. They are continuing to investigate, but have halted their search until additional information becomes available.

Anyone with information on Weaver’s whereabouts should call the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at 678-625-1400.
