Deputies catch Woodstock bank robbery suspect

The suspect in a Woodstock bank robbery was apprehended by Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies shortly after the crime, police said.

Chase Lovell Gates, 27, of Acworth, was to be questioned by Woodstock investigators before being transported to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center later Tuesday.

Woodstock police responded to the robbery at Cherokee Bank in the 100 block of Woodstock Square Avenue around 11:45 a.m..

Employees told investigators that a man entered the bank and demanded money from a teller, who handed him an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then left on foot. He went to the nearby Kohl’s parking lot, dropped the cash and got into a Ford sedan, police said. Witnesses gave officers a picture of the vehicle and part of the tag number.

Cherokee deputies caught Gates in Acworth off of Kellogg Creek Road not long after a bulletin was sent to local law enforcement, police said.
