Traffic was delayed at midmorning Friday on I-575 northbound after a woman jumped from a bridge, Cherokee County authorities said.
One of two freeway lanes was closed while authorities investigated the fatal jump, sheriff’s spokesman Jay Baker said.
The incident happened at the Sharpe Mountain Creek Bridge, Baker said. It was an apparent suicide, and foul play is not suspected. The identity of the 35-year-old woman was not released.
A southbound motorist who witnessed the jump called authorities at 6:42 a.m., Baker said. The woman’s vehicle was on the bridge when officers responded.
