A DeKalb County police officer was injured in a car crash on Glenwood Road near Columbia Drive on Thursday afternoon.

According to DeKalb police, a passenger vehicle pulled out in front of police car and the officer swerved in an attempt to avoid the vehicle. The officer struck the vehicle and then veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

The officer, who was stuck in the patrol car after the wreck, was removed around 4:45 p.m. and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of other vehicle was arrested and charged with failure to yield, DeKalb police spokesman Capt. S.R. Fore said.

All lanes of Glenwood reopened around 5:30 p.m. after being closed because of the wreck, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Zee Salim was coming out of a nearby auto parts store when he saw the wreck happen. He told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that accidents frequently take place on that stretch of Glenwood, as it is hard to see around a hill.

“I’ve seen cop accidents about two or three times because usually they’re just coming so fast,” he said.
