He was outnumbered, three-to-one.
Police say the men who came for 24-year-old Torin Davenport held his wife back so she couldn’t help him, while one man delivered a devastating punch to the head. Police believe the assault was in retribution for an assault Davenport allegedly had made on the wife.
Davenport lost consciousness, with a fractured skull and vertebra in his neck that day last May. His brain began to bleed and swell. One of the men took one more swing at him while Davenport was down, but missed, according to DeKalb County police.
Davenport, who had a four-year-old son, died Oct. 30 in an assisted living facility, police said. The medical examiner’s office ruled the case a homicide this week.
On Monday, Bruce McDaye, 24, Kenneth Calloway, 30, and Elton Calloway, 26, were arrested on murder charges. The men are relatives of the wife, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
They’d previously only been accused of aggravated assault and released on bond, jail records show, but the charges were upgraded in light of the medical examiner’s decision.

Warrants for the men allege it was McDaye whose punch connected with Davenport in an apartment on Columbia Drive. Elton Calloway was allegedly the man who tried to punch the victim when he was unconscious.
