Local and state agencies have partner to present a family summer safety event noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Mall at Stonecrest, 2929 Turner Hill Road, Stonecrest. (In the parking lot near New Vision Stonecrest 16 Theatres)

Officials from the DeKalb County Board of Health and DeKalb County Fire Rescue will address the importance of not leaving children unattended in vehicles (running or not) at any time, especially during the summer months. Using vehicles from Nalley Toyota Stonecrest, Safe Kids DeKalb will demonstrate just how hot an interior can reach after only a few minutes of being turned off.

Free car seat safety demonstrations, one-on-one education and safety checks will be provided.

On average, 37 children die heat-related deaths each year in the U.S. after being trapped inside a vehicle. Already this summer in metro Atlanta, preventable “close call” events have occurred.
