As one of the few if not the only metro county to offer twice-a-week trash collection, DeKalb County residents will soon be in for change.

A community meeting set for 7 - 8:30 p.m. today at the Redan Recreation Center, 1839 Phillips Road, Lithonia will allow county officials to discuss the Sanitation Division’s proposed recycling and solid waste collection service change.

The cost-saving initiative promotes a one-day-a-week recycling and solid waste collection plan, and the institution of free county-provided solid waste containers for county residents. The initiative is expected to be heard for a vote at an upcoming Board of Commissioners meeting.
