David Webb jumped out a hotel window, used a dozen false identities and hid in an “alligator-infested swamp” in an attempt to evade police, the U.S. Department of Justice said, but it wasn’t enough to keep him from being arrested.
Webb, captured in Suffolk, Virginia on Jan. 6, pleaded guilty to being a fugitive from justice in possession of firearms and ammunition on Thursday.
Webb had been on the run from warrants issued for his arrest in DeKalb and Chatham counties, according to the Justice Department. He had evaded law enforcement with the help of more than a dozen fake driver’s licenses, multiple aliases and other falsified documents, according to the statement of facts filed with the plea agreement.
Webb was found with ammunitions and three guns, one of which had an “obliterated serial number,” a Justice Department release said. Webb also had $7,300 in cash, methamphetamine, a digital scale and drug packaging materials, the department said.
Webb will be sentenced on July 5 and faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
