DeKalb County Commissioners are slated to decide in January whether to raise the county’s storm water utility fee for the first time since it was created in 2004.

The proposed $12 increase would generate about $4 million more a year for DeKalb’s to make drainage system repairs and comply with state permit requirements. The county has collected about $16 million with the fee but projects that to drop to $15 million without an increase because of the creation of Brookhaven.

If approved, the $60 fee will remain lower than the $73.80 fee charged by neighboring Gwinnett County and also lower than those charged by DeKalb cities such as Avondale Estates, Decatur and Dunwoody.
