It now costs you to even try to get your criminal record expunged in DeKalb County.

The county Police Department had refunded its $25 share of the $50 fee if a request was denied. The remainder of the fee went to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The department is now keeping the fee, regardless of outcome, because of the staff work and supplies needed for its part of the paperwork. The change would have netted the department $16,000 more over the past 18 months.
