The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners voted to recently authorize Interim CEO Lee May to cancel a contract with Green Energy Partners-DeKalb LLC.

The organization planned to build an electric energy plant near Lithonia, which would run on wood chips and yard waste from the Seminole Landfill. DeKalb County agreed to a contract in July 2010.

The agreement stipulated that the facility had to built within two years, said May. It has been more than four years and the structure hasn’t been built so the county is terminating the relationship.

The contract would have remained in effect through 2030. Many residents near the proposed site had voiced concerns about air quality and other health issues over the years.
