The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners recently purchased software for pet registration, the first step in what it hopes will increase the number of owners who license their animals.
The county is paying $195,000 to PetData Inc. of Texas for the software. The firm also will help the county with registering pets, as required by local law.
The purchase was initially recommended by a citizen task force that released a report earlier this year on ways to improve the county’s animal control operations and shelter.
The county is taking other steps from the report, including looking for sites for a new shelter and considering increases in the animal registration fees.
