The budget for re-developing Avondale Estates’ Willis Park has been whittled down to $599,000, compared to the $816,000 proposed during a late January work session. Acting Mayor Terry Giager said he wants to slice it further to $500,000 and remains optimistic that construction is on schedule if not ahead.

City Manager Clai Brown previously gave a timetable with construction beginning in September and a grand opening in April 2016. But in a recent interview Giager said work should take three-to-four months with a possible reopening before next spring.
