City Schools Decatur announced the promotion of two interim principals to fulltime positions effective immediately.
After nearly a year as interim Ruth Scott is the now the principal at Winnona Park Elementary while Curtis Armour Jr. takes over at Clairemont Elementary.
Scott has spent eight years at Winnona, first as an instructional coach and then as a special education teacher before getting named interim principal last February. Superintendent David Dude said CSD received 29 applications for the position.
After earning a Doctor of Education degree from Clark Atlanta University, Armour has spent 18 years in education. He was a Social Studies Department Chair and Instructional Coach with Atlanta Public Schools, getting named that district’s Educator of the Year in 2014. He was an assistant principal for three years in the Fayette County school system and came to Clairemont at the beginning of this school year.
He was named interim last November when Billy Heaton was named the first ever principal for the new upper elementary school (grades 3-5) on Talley Street, scheduled to open next August.
Of Decatur’s eight K-12 schools, five have hired new principals within the last year.
