The Decatur school board will swear in new member Jana Johnson-Davis during its regular monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 12) at the Wilson School Support Center, 125 Electric Avenue.

Like the board’s other two candidates, incumbent Tasha White and newcomer James Herndon, Johnson-Davis ran unopposed in the Nov. 5 election.

She’ll claim the at-large seat formerly held by Annie Caiola, who resigned August 1, and currently held on an interim basis by Marc Wisniewski. Initially Wisniewski was to serve through the end of the year, but now Johnson-Davis takes over from Nov 12 through Dec. 31, 2021.

Herndon won’t join the board until Jan. 1.

Totaled the board and city commission welcome four new members after last week’s election. At-large incumbent Tony Powers beat Christopher Gagnon 3907 votes (74.14 percent) to 1357 (25.75 percent), in district one George Dusenbury slipped past Erin Braden 1782 (54.85 percent) to 1464 (45.06 percent) and in district two Lesa Mayer beat Phillip Wiedower 1454 (72.88 percent) to 539 (27.02 percent).

Dusenbury and Mayer also don’t get sworn in until January.

Despite the turnover no incumbent was actually beaten. On the commission Scott Drake (who served six years, nine months) and Brian Smith (four years) are retiring, while school board member Garrett Goebel (eight years) is also stepping down.
