Decatur’s citizen-led, government-supported collective Better Together is hosting a workshop and conversations on community differences in culture, race, age, politics and economic resources, among other topics. The event is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Ebster Recreation Center, 105 Electric Avenue, Decatur. You can register by going to www.surveymonkey.com/r/BTDecaturAugust29. Led by city consultant Art of Community, discussions are patterned after the World Café Model by utilizing rotating small groups.

There is also a one-day leadership-and-facilitation training in helping people work through diversity issues, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., August 22 at the Decatur Conference Center in the Courtyard by Marriott, 130 Clairemont Avenue. To register, go to connect@theartofcommunity.org.

By year’s end or early next year the city hopes to produce a community action plan composed of citizen comments, suggestions and input. Earlier this year, city commissioners approved a $109,000 contract for the Art of Community to help develop the plan.
