Student enrollment in City Schools of Decatur has risen by 11 percent this school year, with more than 3,600 students signed up for this school year.

"Families have been enrolling in droves even over the last two weeks," CSD Superintendent Phyllis Edwards wrote in a letter to district employees and parents. "Central Office staff is carefully checking residency documentation. It appears that many houses have been purchased over the summer, and nearly all of them have school-age children moving in. Decatur is certainly a thriving city, and the school system is a major contributor to its charm."
