Decatur’s commission recently approved adding all-way stops at Hilldale Drive/Derrydown Way and West Hill Street/McKoy Street. Both were driven by complaints from neighborhood residents due to heavy use by pedestrians, particularly children walking to school. West Hill has long been an attractive straightaway for speeders, while Hilldale/Derrydown has become a cut-through for drivers avoiding South Columbia Drive.

It’s still uncertain when work will commence. Hilldale/Derrydown will get the necessary stop signs and striping to create an all-way stop for motorists, with the possibility of getting additional traffic-calming measures. West Hill/McKoy will get stop signs and an upgraded crosswalk and is scheduled for paving and the installation of curb cuts next year.
