Decapitation mystery | Victims’ son speaks out

The son of a Eatonton woman missing since her husband’s decapitated body was found nine days ago said he doesn’t expect his mother will be found alive.

“Part of me hopes she went quietly,” said Keith Dermond, the eldest living son of Russell and Shirley Dermond. “The thought of her suffering is too much to bear.”

It’s been nearly two weeks since investigators believe Russell Dermond was killed and his wife of 62 years presumably abducted from their home inside Reynolds Plantation, a gated community located about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said investigators are no closer to finding Shirley Dermond.
