Police are investigating after a camera was found in a bathroom ceiling vent at a popular Buckhead restaurant.

The camera was discovered Wednesday by customers at Red Pepper Taquería on Piedmont Road, according to Atlanta police. When officers responded about 10:10 p.m. and collected the device, they determined it was not powered on.

photo of the camera tucked behind the slats of a wooden vent was shared to social media, prompting a response in kind by the Mexican restaurant, which operates three locations in metro Atlanta.

Red Pepper Taquería confirmed the camera was found by a male customer in one of two unisex restrooms. It was removed and given to a female customer, who then alerted management.

“The camera in question is not the property of ‪Red Pepper Taquería,” the restaurant said in its statement.‬ “It was brought in to the restaurant and restroom by a guest.”

Management said the discovery was being taken seriously and is under investigation.

The camera was turned over to police as evidence, Atlanta police spokesman Investigator James White said.
