The Cumming City Council voted to install a traffic light at a busy three-way intersection during its most recent meeting. The council awarded the project to Wilburn Engineering for $171, 863. The light will control traffic where Pilgrim Mill Road, Lanier 400 Parkway and Parkside Walk meet.

The light is a brand-new one and came about because residents of the Parkside at Pilgrim Mill subdivision pushed for it, said city spokeswoman Crystal Ledford. They had cited increased traffic following the opening of Lanier 400 Parkway last year.

Ledford said city officials also expect traffic in the area to increase even further when the new Alliance Academy High School opens nearby in August 2018. Installation of the light is set to begin in two to three weeks.
