Crowds filled both bleachers at South Gwinnett High School Saturday night for an emotional memorial, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The Gwinnett County community bid farewell to two college students killed in a crash March 26 near the University of Georgia.
Olivia Cox, 22, and her best friend Megan Smith, 23, were passengers in a black sedan when the driver lost control and struck another vehicle in Athens.
Cox studied at Georgia Gwinnett College and worked at a café in Buckhead. She was, according to a family friend, “the epitome of love, adventure, and happiness.”
Cox’s mother, Dana Turk, told Channel 2 the two Snellville natives had been best friends for six years.
The two were remembered as fun loving and down to earth.
“Just a couple weekends ago I had the pleasure of hanging out with y’all one last time,” friend Andrew Prater wrote on Facebook. “Y’all were such beautiful energetic individuals who have made a lasting impression on everyone [whose] lives you touched.”
Saturday night’s memorial was an emotional farewell, with friends’ tributes written on balloons that each person released into the sky, according to Channel 2.
The large crowd stood on the same field where Cox played softball for the school.
