Members of Braselton’s Downtown Development Authority and town staff recently accepted a “Best Design-Placemaking Award” of the year from the Georgia Downtown Association for the library crosswalk on Davis Street.

The pedestrian crosswalk, designed by Debra Swantek, features a painting of a bookshelf with books. The crosswalk was designed to cultivate the connection between the promotion of public art in the community, economic growth and tourism. It was funded in part through the Georgia Council for the Arts Vibrant Communities grant.

Hollie Hutchinson, who chairs the city’s Downtown Development Authority, said, “The crosswalk represents the incredibly positive synergy we enjoy between our businesses, our citizens and the town.”

The Georgia Downtown Association promotes downtown and economic development through public awareness, government relations and education.
