Sandy Springs city officials said final 2015 numbers show a drop in city crime, with so-called Part 1 offenses declining roughly 7.5 percent. Breaking it down further, violent crime dropped slightly in 2015 compared to the year before, from 154 to 151, while property crimes dipped from 2730 in 2014 to 2531 in 2015.

The Uniform Crime Reporting Part 1 crimes are homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, vehicle theft and arson. Police officials chalk up the drop to dedicated officers and support staffers coupled with a commitment to community policing.

Crime has declined in Sandy Springs each year since the department was set up in 2006, according to police officials.
