A couple is out of $8,000 after the venue for their August wedding reception closed without notice.
High school sweethearts Mark Dacosta and Keshia Lowe told Channel 2 Action News they had paid Elaborate Events in Duluth 16 monthly payments of $500 and had finalized most aspects of the wedding from decor to flowers when they found the venue closed with padlocked doors and caution tape.
The couple's wedding is Aug. 20, according to a wedding page at theknot.com.
“We contacted the Gwinnett Police Department and they stated that they cannot help us and we need to file a civil lawsuit,” Dacosta said. “Things like that take time.”
At least five couples are in a similar position, according to Channel 2.
