Courts rejects lawyer’s request for discipline
The Georgia Supreme Court has rejected Atlanta lawyer Eric C. Lang’s request that he be suspended from practicing law for six months for an ethics violation.
Lang was already serving a yearlong suspension when he made the request for the additional six months’ suspension, the court said. Last year, Lang failed to tell a client that a judgment had been entered against him, the court said, noting that the client only became aware of the judgment when he received a garnishment notice. The court agreed with a State Bar of Georgia recommendation that Lang’s request for voluntary discipline be rejected and the matter receive further consideration.

Stockbridge lawyer disbarred
The Georgia Supreme Court has disbarred Stockbridge attorney William Nesbitt, agreeing with recommendations by a special master appointed to investigate allegations of misconduct.
The special master, Decatur attorney Shelby Outlaw, found that Nesbitt set up his a law practice with a client who was not a lawyer, committed financial misconduct and engaged in a pattern of deceitful and fraudulent behavior, the court’s ruling said. Nesbitt also showed an indifference toward making restitution, the ruling said.

Simpsonwood property could become city park
At a meeting Monday sponsored by the United Peachtree Corners Civic Association, David Haddow, broker for the North Georgia Conference, told residents talks have been ongoing with Gwinnett County and the National Parks Service to purchase the 227-acre Simpsonwood Conference Center property. Gwinnett approached the North Georgia Conference about buying 125 acres of the land in 2011 leading to the need for clarification of the property’s deed restrictions. Haddow said talks with the National Parks Service to purchase the remaining 102 acres have stalled due to federal funding cutbacks. Gwinnett has hired an appraiser to determine the property’s value. www.upcca.org. Karen Huppertz for the AJC

Fire Station may finally get built
DeKalb County’s commission approved rebuilding the long-planned fire station in Avondale Estates, whose current structure is described by Mayor Ed Rieker as “not habitable.” It was built in in the mid-1940s, with plans for a demolition and rebuilding since at least the late 1990s. The project, which would cost $1.9 million, received building permits, architectural plans and grant funding two years ago, but has been delayed ever since. Owned by DeKalb, the station covers 20 percent Avondale and 80 percent unincorporated DeKalb.
