Gwinnett cops target texting drivers
The Gwinnett County Police Department tried a new kind of crackdown on drivers who are texting behind the wheel this week and cited 17 people for texting while driving over a two-day period beginning Tuesday.
Tallies for the third day were not immediately available.
Officers in the Central Precinct in Duluth’s five-person traffic unit used an unmarked police car to watch for lawbreakers and then called marked cars to make the traffic stop.
Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said administrative staff will review the effectiveness of the operation before deciding whether to repeat it. Andria Simmons
