KIPP charter wins grant to collaborate with APS
KIPP Metro Atlanta was one of seven charter groups across the nation to be awarded a federal grant of $160,000 to share best practices with Atlanta’s B.E.S.T. Academy Middle.

Grant to aid girls with math, science
The Newell Rubbermaid Foundation has granted $25,000 to The YWCA of Greater Atlanta’s Teen Girls in Technology Program.
The program aims to prepare teenage girls to succeed in science, technology, engineering and math by providing a curriculum focused on leadership, academic excellence and mentoring by women in STEM-related careers.
TGI Tech encourages girls ages 12-17 to set long-term goals, such as high school graduation and STEM-related college majors, and provides opportunities to travel with field trips and college visits. Mea Watkins
King Community Resources set to open
Ebenezer Baptist Church will host a dedication ceremony to mark the opening of the new Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resources Complex 1 p.m. today at 101 Jackson Street NE.
The sermon of dedication delivered by Andrew Young is during the 11 a.m. service.
The 30,000 square foot resources complex will involve a collaboration of resources from Ebenezer, Casey Family Programs, Operation HOPE, and The Center for Working Families to help provide financial literacy, work force development, education and support to families in the area.

Board of Commission meeting cancelled
The Henry County Board of Commissioners meeting previously scheduled for Monday has been cancelled because there are no agenda items.
The commissioners will convene at 9 a.m. Tuesday for their regular monthly meeting.

Chamber hosting legislative preview
Members of DeKalb County’s House and Senate delegations will be on hand 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Georgia Piedmont Technical College near Clarkston for a legislative preview.
Sponsored by the county’s Chamber of Commerce, the luncheon will offer an overview of pending 2013 topics before the General Assembly for chamber members and residents.
Cost is $35 for members and $45 for non-members.

Kennesaw to hold public forum on city issues
Kennesaw’s city manager Steve Kennedy and public works officials will talk about the city’s plans for improving transportation, managing storm water and a sanitation billing update at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 3753 Watts Dr.
