Stockbridge names public works director
Kevin Walter has been named public works director in Stockbridge. He formerly held the same position in Sandy Springs and was county engineer in Newton County.

Water service cutoff scheduled in Canton
Due to water system construction, some Canton residents will temporarily lose water service Tuesday. The Mountain View, Hidden Branches, Hillcrest and Cherokee Overlook subdivisions will be cut off 9 a.m.- 3 p.m., weather permitting.

The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Spring Activity Guide is now available. The 16- page guide lists county park and recreation facilities, spring camps for kids, youth and adult athletic leagues and programs and recreation center arts programs. It’s available online at www.forsythco.com/parks.

Conference call Tuesday on school bill
State Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan, D-Austell, will host a free conference call 6 p.m. Tuesday so parents can learn more about House Bill 123.
The bill would provide parents and teachers with several options for transforming low-achieving schools.
A school board would need a two-thirds vote to reject a petition submitted by more than 60 percent of parents or teachers of that school.

Snellville Senior Center looking for volunteers
The Snellville Senior Center needs volunteers to fill in at the front desk and to help decorate the center each season. Volunteers also assist with the center’s newsletter assembly and mailing.
Volunteers donating 25 or more hours a year receive their next year’s senior center membership for $5.
Interested volunteers are invited to meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Food drive to benefit food bank
DeKalb County Commissioner Kathie Gannon and Solicitor Sherry Boston have kicked off a food drive to help residents struggling in the new year.
Donations of non-perishable food items will be donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which distributes to more than 58,000 families in the metro area weekly.
High-protein items such as tuna and peanut butter are especially needed, as are fruit juices and canned vegetables.
Food collection barrels will be set up through Thursday in the lobbies of county buildings in Decatur: the Maloof Building, 1300 Commerce Dr.; the Clark Harrison Building, 330 W. Ponce de Leon Ave.; the DeKalb County Courthouse, N. McDonough St.; and the Tax Commissioner’s office, 4380 Memorial Dr. April Hunt
