Road maintenance continues next week

Assuming weather permits, The Georgia DOT will perform routine maintenance in Gwinnett 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. next week, Monday through Friday, Oct. 24. A crew will mow the slopes alongside SR 140, SR 141 and SR 13.

Another crew will repair the slopes and ditches alongside SR 124.

Daniel named State Coroner of Year

Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel has been elected “Coroner of the Year” by the 154 county coroners, who belong to the Georgia Coroners Association.

Daniel was nominated by Douglas County Deputy Coroner Nathan Mitchell, Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller, Douglas County Fire Chief Scott Spencer and Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack.

Owner of Daniel Floor Covering in Douglasville, he had served as the county’s deputy coroner for 10 years before he was elected coroner, a position he has held now for 22 years.

Kennesaw to hold stormwater hearing

Kennesaw ‘s City Council will hold a public hearing about starting a stormwater utilty program. The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 2529 J.O. Stephenson Ave. After a second hearing Nov. 3,the council will vote on adopting a stormwater utility credit manual.

The residential fee would be $5 monthly and commercial fees would be based on square feet of impervious surfaces. The city plans to offset costs during the first year.

Advance voting locations are open Monday through Oct. 24 at three more locations in addition to the Paulding County Elections Office, 240 Constitution Blvd., Dallas.

Hours at all four locations are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Mt. Tabor Park, 1550 East Paulding Drive, Dallas; Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 2056 Hiram Douglasville Hwy., Hiram and Burnt Hickory Park, 8650 Cartersville Hwy., Dallas.

Forum looks at pop culture, violence

Clark Atlanta University’s weeklong series in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month gets under way with a forum titled “Eradicating Weapons of Vast Destruction: Dating and Domestic Violence Through a Popular Culture Lens” 6-8 p.m. Monday in Cole Auditorium, Clark Atlanta University, 223 James P. Brawley Drive SW.

A conflict resolution discussion, “Peace. Talks” by the Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights will be held 6-8 p.m., Tuesday.
