Market founder leaning towards Briarcliff

Speaking recently about annexation, Your DeKalb Farmers Market president Robert Blazer said the 110-acre market, one of the county’s prized commercial parcels is currently on Avondale Estates’ proposed annexation map. But Blazer says he’s been approached by Avondale, Decatur and the proposed Briarcliff. If forced he’d rather go into Briarcliff.

Dallas Memory Care selects Paulding

Paulding County Economic Development has recruited its first medical enterprise, Dallas Memory Care, in its attempt to develop a medical corridor around nearby WellStar Paulding Hospital.

Expected to open in late 2015, this $8 million, 35,000-square-foot facility will employ 40 associates at an average salary of $16 per hour and will be dedicated to the care of patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Carolyn Cunningham for the AJC

Cherokee agency for children to move

The Cherokee County office of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will relocate, with the purchase of what’s known as the old Georgia State Patrol building, across the street from Boling Park in Canton. CASA is buying the building from Cherokee County for $350,000, quadrupling space from current digs in the historic courthouse downtown. The agency hopes to renovate and move in by year‘s end. The move will enable CASA to add several new services, such as mentoring and supervised visits. Mark Woolsey for the AJC

Police Explorers taking applicants

The Powder Springs Police Explorer Post invites teens and young adults, ages 14 to 21, to join the post if they are interested in a law enforcement career.

Chartered through the Boy Scouts of America, this program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, community service activities, ride-alongs in police vehicles, policing and hands-on training.

Applications are available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Powder Springs Police Department, 1114 Richard D. Sailors Parkway.

Aging Services meeting in Fayetteville

The Atlanta Regional Commission invites metro Atlantans to help develop services and programs for the region’s elderly.
