Women in Focus, a women’s photography group celebrating its 20th anniversary, will present a photography exhibit at the Central Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, in honor of Women’s History Month. Nutrition class for seniors on fat intake

The Gwinnett Extension Service will hold a nutrition class for seniors focusing on the control of fat intake 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the Norcross Senior Center, 5030 Georgia Belle Ct. in Norcross. This free class will teach seniors about fat and calorie goals, how to properly weigh and measure food, how to keep track of food intake, and how to eat less fat and fewer calories. The Marietta Police Department will host a Citizens Police Academy 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays beginning April 8. Henry County honors STAR student, teacher

Union Grove High School senior Anthony Ciccarello was named the STAR Student for Henry County at the local STAR ceremony on Thursday. The Chamber of Commerce hosted the event at Eagle’s Landing Country Club. Ciccarello was one of 13 students public and private schools in the country to earn school STAR student recognition. The recognition results from a combination of a student’s SAT score and his or her ranking in the top 10 percent of their class. The student chosen for the award then gets to select his or her STAR Teacher. Ciccarello chose Jackie Hand, an English teacher at Union Grove High, as his STAR teacher. Nancy Badertscher

Fulton promotes ‘Breakfast Week’

Studies by the Food Research and Action Center show students who eat breakfast improve academic performance. Fulton County Schools is signifying the importance of the first meal of the day during National School Breakfast Week, Monday through Friday by decorating schools with the promotional theme “Be a Star with School Breakfast” and staging contests. The highest breakfast participation in each elementary school will win a classroom prize pack. Middle and high school students will receive a raffle ticket and earn a chance to win prizes each day they join the cafeteria for breakfast.

Stormwater meetings continue in Fayette

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners will hold another town hall meeting to discuss new stormwater fees at 7 p.m. today at the meeting room of the Administrative Complex in downtown Fayetteville. This is the second of three such meetings related to funding infrastructure repairs throughout the county. The final meeting will be held March 25 at the same time and place.
