The Fulton County Board of Commissioners this week voted to sell Providence Park to the city of Milton for a state-mandated $4,200 sum.

The park’s been closed since 2004, predating the city’s 2006 formation. After eleven years of environmental cleanup work, state Environmental Protection Division officials now say groundwater and soils there are safe.

The 42-acre passive-use site includes a lodge, hiking trails, a rock-climbing cliff and a lake. City staffers are working on renovation plan. There’s no word on when the park might be re-open, though, because the land purchase hasn’t been finalized.
