Cops: Masked man robbed Marietta bank at gunpoint

Marietta police are investigating an armed robbery reported Wednesday at a bank on Cobb Parkway.

Employees of Fifth Third Bank called 911 around 9:15 a.m. to report a robbery at the branch at 2197 Cobb Parkway South.

A man wearing a skeleton mask entered the bank, approached a teller and pointed a black semiautomatic handgun at her while saying, “this is a robbery,” Marietta police said.

Police spokesman officer Chuck McPhilamy said the man appeared to be about 5’11’’ to 6’2’’ tall. No other customers were in the bank at the time of the alleged robbery.

The man took an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving the bank on foot. Marietta police say the man is considered “armed and dangerous.”
