A man who stole backpacks from a store in Decatur Square is also suspected in a robbery and assault that happened two days later, according to Decatur police.

Police are looking to identify the man, who was seen on surveillance footage April 28 at a business in the 100 block of Sycamore Street, according to a Facebook post this week from the police department. He and another male stole backpacks from the store, police said. Officials did not say which store was targeted.

Two days later, on April 30, a man reported being robbed and beaten by two men while he was sitting outside in Decatur Square. He told police that one of the individuals was walking by when he grabbed money that was sitting on the table.

“The victim stood and confronted the two males and was repeatedly punched in the face,” Decatur police wrote in a Facebook post.

The men then ran into the Decatur MARTA station, police said. One of the men suspected in that incident was part of the duo that stole the backpacks, police believe.
