DeKalb County police have arrested a man in the death of a 70-year-old woman who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and was found bound and stabbed in her home.
Mark Ramos, 55, of Murrayville, is accused in warrants released Monday of tying Helen Davis up with electrical tape, wrapping her in a rug and nearly decapitating her with a knife.
The warrant alleges Ramos recently went with Helen Davis to Augusta to see her husband in a nursing home. The relationship between the suspect and victim hasn’t been released.
While searching the home, which was ransacked, officers found a Kindle with the name “Mark’ on it, the documents said.
Police then found Ramos driving Davis’ 2009 black Jeep Liberty to pawn her flat screen television. He was subsequently charged with murder and theft.
Lt. Lonzy Robertson of DeKalb police said the motive is unclear as of yet because the suspect wouldn’t speak with detectives without an attorney.
Davis was found on the floor of her home on Panthers Trace, off Panthersville Road, on Thursday with “no signs of life,” a police report said.

The report, which indicated that the woman’s Alzheimer’s was “slight,” also said the home was ransacked and a hammer lay on the floor near the front door.
Police told Channel 2 Action News last week that Davis appeared to have been dead several days before family sent officers to check on her.
