Marietta residents Christopher Lamont Hall, left, and Deria Michelle Young are charged in connection with the break-in of a vehicle owned by the Cobb County government.

Two people have been charged after a purse belonging to Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Sonya Allen was swiped from a county-owned SUV parked outside a golf club.

The Sheriff’s Office has obtained arrest warrants for Marietta residents Christopher Lamont Hall and Deria Michelle Young following the Jan. 24 incident.

Hall broke the front passenger side window of a black Chevrolet Tahoe owned by the county government and took Allen’s pink Kate Spade purse, according to a warrant issued for his arrest. The vehicle was parked at City Club Marietta at 510 Powder Springs Street.

According to an incident report released by Marietta police, which is investigating the incident with the Sheriff’s Office, Allen said she parked the vehicle at 11:30 a.m. and returned to the parking lot around 1:24 p.m. to find the car vandalized and her purse missing.

The bag contained Allen’s wallet, Cobb County Sheriff’s Office badge, agency credentials and her Georgia Bar attorney identification.

According to the warrant, Hall and Young used Allen’s bank card to purchase an Apple iPhone 11, Canon Ivy Cliq Pearl White camera, Canon Ivy Zink paper, Blink XT2 camera system, Hoover Windtunnel vacuum cleaner and a 60-inch LG Smart 4K Ultra HD television at Best Buy on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna. The pair charged $1,664 to Allen’s card, the warrant adds.

Sheriff’s Office investigators say Hall and Young were captured on Best Buy’s surveillance cameras using Allen’s bank card.

Allen’s purse was also found in an apartment where Hall was living at the time, the warrant says. He also “had small cuts on his left hand that appeared to be consistent with sticking your hand through a broken window,” the warrant states.

Cobb County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Glenn Daniel said no firearms were taken from the vehicle. He also said the investigation remains “active and ongoing,” and the cost to repair the vehicle was $375.

Hall, 41, is charged with illegally entering an auto, financial transaction card theft, financial transaction card fraud, identity theft and theft by taking. Young, 35, is charged with entering auto, theft by taking, identity theft and financial transaction card fraud.

Hall and Young were booked into the Cobb County jail on Jan. 25. Young was released after posting bond. Hall remains held without bond.
