The suspect linked to three bank robberies in the metro Atlanta area had a fake hand grenade with him when he was arrested late Wednesday night, police said.
Jeremy Thompson, also known as Jeremy Cannon, was taken into custody at a Greyhound bus station in Atlanta, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said Thursday.
Detectives had information indicating that he was going to flee to Miami. Photos were given to security at the bus terminal on Forsyth Street, said Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police. Thompson was spotted around midnight while attempting to buy a bus ticket and arrested without incident, he said.
Thompson, 28, was in possession of a fake grenade when he was captured, Smith said.
He is charged with one count of armed robbery for Tuesday’s incident at the Wells Fargo on Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Buford Highway near Norcross. He is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
Authorities also have linked Thompson to Wells Fargo robberies in Doraville on Aug. 27 and Buckhead on Aug. 29. In the Gwinnett and Buckhead robberies, a man armed with an object that appeared to be a hand grenade demanded money be put into a bag, then fled with an undisclosed amount, police said. No device was used in the Doraville robbery.
Thompson had outstanding warrants in Atlanta for armed robbery at the time of his arrest, Lyon said.
