The Georgia Supreme Court said Tuesday convenience store clerks can be held responsible if they sell alcohol to an intoxicated customer who later has an accident.

The parents of a 6-year-old girl who was injured in the 2004 crash filed a lawsuit. Six people also were killed.

According to the lawsuit, Billy Joe Grundell was “noticeably intoxicated” when he bought a 12-pack of beer from a Clinch County store.

Four hours later, Grundell’s car slammed into an oncoming van.  Grundell’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.181, more than twice the legal limit.
