Homeowners in one Gwinnett County community are pushing back against a proposed QuikTrip near a busy Norcross-area intersection.

Resident Patrick Fox says he thinks residents will be trapped in gridlock and that the city took advantage of them.

"It's not just an uphill battle for us, it's vertical," Fox said. "They snuck this one past me. I didn't see it."

Fox claims the city buried the notice for a special meeting last Monday and they hid the agenda under a different tab. The city council approved annexing the property last week.

QuikTrip hopes to build at Beaver Ruin and Indian Trail-Lilburn roads, according to city council documents.

The Norcross city attorney told Channel 2 Action News on Monday that he is aware of the issue but would not comment because he hadn't heard directly from a complainant.

Fox says both residents and commuters will be affected if the development ties up thousands of drivers who use Beaver Ruin to get to I-85.

"All we ever wanted was an opportunity to be heard and we never got that," Fox said.

Still, not everyone is against the new QuikTrip development.

"If they plan to close that one and open a big one over there, it could be a benefit," said resident Jaime Garzus.
