Students at Cheatham Hill Elementary School in Marietta might be learning a new word come fall: roundabout.
The Cobb County Department of Transportation posted to Facebook on Thursday that construction is underway for a roundabout near the school.
Crews will create a single-lane roundabout at John Ward and Irwin roads, improve the school’s driveway, add a left-turn lane for the school and raise the concrete barriers for safety.
For all that, according to Cobb DOT, the estimated cost is $1 million in funds from the county's 2016 SPLOST, Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, and the Cobb schools SPLOST approved in March 2013.

In addition, sidewalks will be added along the west side of John Ward Road south of Irwin Road and along the east side of John Ward Road north of Irwin Road; street lighting will be upgraded to new LED lights at the roundabout and school driveway.
The project is expected to be finished in August, the county transportation agency said.
