Representatives of the Georgia Department of Transportation briefed the McDonough City Council at its April 17 meeting on the one-way pair road construction on the west side of downtown. That road leads into the square. Right-of-way acquisition is expected to be completed this month and the bids for construction will be solicited in mid-June with construction expected to take 30 months.

When completed, westbound traffic leaving the square will use two lanes of what is now Jonesboro Street, while eastbound commuters coming into downtown will do so on two lanes of Hampton Street. A roundabout will be constructed at Jonesboro Road and Doris Street.

State DOT officials will keep local residents and motorists apprised of road closures and detour routes when applicable. One-way pairs already exist in and out of the square from the other three directions.
