The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced that Baker Concrete Construction Inc. will install a lane closure, subsequent full street closure and associated detour at 18th Street NW and Spring Street NW. The purpose of these traffic interruptions is to take down the tower crane located at 1390 Spring Street NW which was used for the vertical construction of Ascent Midtown at 1400 West Peachtree Street NW, according to a press release.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, the left two southbound lanes of Spring Street NW will be closed during non-peak hours to do preliminary work for the tower crane removal. This lane closure will continue through 9 p.m. Thursday, July 12. The full closure of Spring Street NW will go into effect between 18th Street NW and 17th Street NW at that time. The detour will conclude 3 a.m. Monday, July 16.

The detour route will redirect all Spring Street NW traffic that is not “Local Traffic Only” to Peachtree Street NW, then to 17th Street NW, and then back to Spring Street NW. Motorists should note that “Local Traffic Only” will be allowed on Spring Street NW between Peachtree Street NW and 18th Street NW. Additionally, there will be two-way traffic on Spring Street NW between 18th Street NW and S. Rhodes Center NW to safely get larger trucks and buses out of the area.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones.
