A manufacturer of aluminum automotive parts will begin construction on a plant next year in Bartow County that will eventually create about 150 high-tech jobs.
Constellium will manufacture automotive side impact beams, front-end structures and other safety components, the company and the Governor’s Office announced. The facility will open in White in the Highland 75 Corporate/Industrial Park.
The Netherlands-based company said it is building the plant in response to growing demand for its automotive structures in North America.
“This expansion of our footprint in the Southeast United States will allow us to better serve our automotive customers and to respond the industry’s growing demand for aluminium structural parts to lighten vehicles, improve fuel economy and reduce environmental impact,” Paul Warton, president of Constellium’s automotive structures and industry business unit, said in a statement.
Automotive companies that have built or expanded plants in Bartow include voestalpine, an auto-parts manufacturer; T.I. Group Automotive, a maker of automotive fluid storage and delivery systems; and Toyo Tire.
Constellium will invest $20 million in the Bartow plant with an additional $12 million invested by developer Seefried Properties.
Construction will begin in early 2016 with start of production anticipated in 2017. Constellium expects the 150 manufacturing jobs to be created by 2019.
The plant’s initial area will be 84,000 square feet but will have the potential to expand to up to 220,000 square feet if needed to meet demand, Constellium said.
Constellium also has plants in Europe and Asia.
