The Alpharetta City Council has approved a right-of-way acquisition agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to advance congestion relief at Ga. 400 and Windward Parkway.
Alpharetta is working with the GDOT and the North Fulton Community Improvement District to plan, fund and execute the project. A lane already has been added to Windward to relieve morning congestion.
To address evening congestion, plans call for lengthening an exit lane by about 500 feet and adding a lane to the exit ramp from Ga. 400; installing triple left-turn lanes from the ramp onto Windward; turning a third lane into a dedicated right-turn lane onto Deerfield Parkway; and creating dual left-turn lanes onto southbound Westside Parkway, according to a staff memo.
The project is on schedule, and environmental approval is expected in the coming month, staff says. Land acquisition would be completed by September 2017, with construction starting in the spring of 2018.
