Residents are invited to a public input meeting Thursday, Jan. 24, on possible improvements to relieve traffic congestion on Waleska Road (Ga. 140) between Riverstone Boulevard and Laurel Canyon/Great Sky parkways in Canton.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Canton City Hall, 110 Academy St.
Canton and Cherokee County jointly retained engineering consultant Atkins-North America to identify solutions to current and future congestion for the approximately three-mile stretch of Ga. 140.
Atkins has proposed short-term options: a signal upgrade and extending the turn lane for right-turning traffic on southbound Ga. 140 at Riverstone; right in/right out lanes at Hospital Road (south); and sidewalk improvements.
Mid-term options include fixing the “skewness” or angle at which Shoal Creek and Hospital roads meet Ga. 140; and long-term options, widening along Ga. 140, and dual left-turn lanes for westbound Ga. 140 at Riverstone.
